Design Notes

The conductivity of the conducting pili is mainly derived from the pi-pi stacking effect produced by the aromatic rings of the aromatic amino acids in them. The type, number and relative position of the aromatic amino acids inside the pili change the conductivity of the pili.

Source

Wild type GmPilA comes from genomic sequence of Geobacter metallireducens. We optimized the amino acid sequence of the original pili using molecular dynamics simulation combined with mathematical modeling to obtain a mutant with potentially higher comprehensive conductivity.
